All Night The Cicada Chirps

“All night the cicada chirps;
all day the grasshopper jumps.
Before I saw my love,
my heart was confused.
But now that I have seen him,
now that I have met him,
my heart is calm”

“I climbed the southern hill
to pick the fern shoots.
Before I saw my love,
my heart was troubled.
But now that I have seen her,
now that I have met her,
my heart is at peace.

“I climbed the southern hill
to pick the bracken shoots.
Before I saw my love,
my heart was sad.
But now that I have seen her,
now that I have met her,
my heart is serene.”
